Got the call from across the Financial Review newsroom that an NRL season preview was required, so took my first step off the backbench and into print for many a year.
Finally posting this midway through the 2021 season, which has been rendered borderline unwatchable at times due to blowout scores, and the words of the great Peter Sterling regarding rule changes back in March are unsurprisingly prescient: “Last year the game was enhanced by having more of a fatigue factor because the ball was in play. But I’m just a bit worried adding to that again this year that we’re starting to get too much of an imbalance between the attacking and the defensive side of the game.”
