Street art doesn’t get much more powerful than the above paste-up, slapped on a wall under a train line in Glebe just in time for Australia Day, 2013.

Sadly, it had been mostly torn down within days. Which is as good an analogy as I can come up with the for the annual, tedious debate over whether January 26 is appropriate. Does India celebrate when the Brits turned up, or when they left? Anyway, I digress…

I was suitably inspired to pen my own thoughts on what Australia Day means as the usual suspects jockeyed for position in the media, as they will every year until (unless?) common sense finally prevails.
